Careers Testimonials
When you become part of the Stellar family, you take your place among a team working toward a common goal of excellence. Our own people present the best case for being part of a company that is dedicated to the growth and development of each of its employees. We are committed to helping our people achieve their dreams and goals both in and out of the office.
When I joined Stellar eight years ago, I was a single mom. Since then, I’ve earned three college degrees while working full time. Stellar’s family-oriented culture made this possible. Our leadership understands that your children are only young once and that family must come first. Within this family environment, there is also a commitment to hard work and career growth. If you are driven and want to achieve in your career, the opportunities are there.
Lorraine Wells
Project Coordinator
I’m the Project Manager for Stellar’s Digital Process Safety Management (PSM) software. When I joined Stellar 11 years ago, we had a handful of digital clients. Now we have nearly 100 and typically add about 12 new clients each year. It’s been exciting to be part of this growth and to manage such an innovative product and service.
Due to several relocations over the past 30 years, I’ve worked for eight very different employers across the country. The Stellar years have been the best, in part because everyone is respected and treated fairly—I feel no sense of a hierarchical culture that sometimes pervades other workplaces. In addition, Stellar’s leaders want their employees to succeed, in both work and personal life, and provide the necessary tools to do so, including seminars in management skills and wellness benefits.
Christine Shelley
Project Manager
As Director of Structural Engineering, I supervise structural engineers and CAD designers working on a variety of projects in our Distribution and Food & Beverage divisions. Throughout my 20 years at Stellar, we have always been committed to doing the very best job possible. I enjoy working for a company that stands behind its projects and puts clients first.
I also enjoy the collaborative nature that the design-build process enables. People from various disciplines—including architects, engineers, construction professionals and more—come together in a seamless fashion on each project. We work as an integrated team, from the initial proposal to construction completion.
Andy Sapin
P.E., S.E., Director of Structural Engineering
I joined Stellar as an intern architect nearly 18 years ago. Now, I work as a Senior Architect, traveling around the world working on a wide variety of projects. My work at Stellar is interesting and motivating. In addition to traveling to places like India, Brazil, and the Caribbean, because of our design-build approach I’m involved in nearly all aspects of projects, from the initial discussions with owners about the project scope, to turning over the keys when the building is complete. I’m constantly learning, as I’m able to problem solve not just with other architects, but also engineers, construction managers and field personnel, all under one roof.
Manny Valdivieso
Senior Architect
When I first joined Stellar in 1999, I was a Field Superintendent on a job in North Carolina. I then worked on many projects in the field in different areas of the country, eventually becoming a General Superintendent, then Director of Field Services, and now Vice President of Field Services, responsible for all of the company’s construction field activity.
For young people just out of college, Stellar offers an invaluable career path. All of our new construction professionals start as Field Engineers and advance from there to Assistant Superintendents and Superintendents. In these roles they get hands-on practical experience, seeing first-hand how buildings come together and a variety of projects are run, from food-processing plants to military housing and others.
Stellar truly cares about its employees. While we are a large company with hundreds of employees, it feels like a small company. You are a valued person, not just a number.
Michael Polczynski
Vice President
I joined Stellar right out of college eight years ago and was immediately given the opportunity to impact and contribute to our team’s success. Since that time, I’ve gained more and more experience with increasing responsibility working on a range of complex projects.
Every day at Stellar is dynamic. I’m always learning—addressing new challenges and discovering new approaches to conventional solutions. Because of our design-build approach, I’m plugged in from conceptual engineering to owner occupancy, interacting with fellow Stellar design and construction team members, subcontractors, consultants, and owners. In the end, it’s very rewarding to see your design and hard work come to fruition.
Jon Phillips
Director of Electrical Engineering
For those who want to learn and grow with a company, Stellar is a great place to work. If you take the initiative, you’ll be given the opportunity to rise to the challenge. My career path is a good example of this—I joined Stellar in 1996 as an intern, and then worked my way up from Field Engineer to my current role as Vice President of Operations for our Food & Beverage group.
People’s doors are always open at Stellar. We are supportive and willing to take the time to answer questions and teach those who want to learn. We invest time and resources in every employee because we want them to succeed.
Scott Mark
Vice President of Operations
I joined Stellar five years ago as a Senior Accountant. When I became ready for a new challenge outside of the accounting field, I found out how committed Stellar is to ensuring employees are happy, motivated, and thriving. Rather than having to change companies, I was able to make a lateral move into a completely new role. Stellar created a position for me, tailored to my analytical skillset but focused on marketing and business development.
Employees at Stellar are valued—your opinion matters and your ideas are always considered. It’s exciting to be part of a team of smart, dedicated people working on complex, fast-paced projects.
Randi Lasley
Market Analyst
Throughout my 13 years at Stellar, I have felt like a valued member of every team I’ve worked with. Everyone at Stellar is treated equally, regardless of what level their position is within the company. Even though we are a diverse company, with people from many different backgrounds, it feels like a family atmosphere.
Phyllis Parrish
Administrative Assistant
I joined Stellar as an Architectural Intern and am currently working toward my professional license. Stellar is very supportive of this process. For example, we often host training programs by the local chapters of the American Institute of Architects and U.S. Green Building Council in our offices so that employees can attend for free.
Because we are a design-build firm, there’s an opportunity to work more closely with construction. This provides a perspective that you do not get in a traditional architectural setting.
Tanya Frantzen
Design Project Manager, LEED AP BD+C
I started with Stellar as a refrigeration engineer in 2004. I’ve worked in both design and project management and now I manage a group of six refrigeration engineers and six CAD designers, overseeing all refrigeration design work. There is a lot of opportunity for career growth at Stellar—if you have the skills and willingness to do the job, you’ll be given the responsibility.
Because we are a design-build company, my team is involved in many more aspects of projects than we would at a typical engineering firm. We travel to job sites, interact with field personnel constantly, and work on very fast-paced projects. This makes the work much more interesting and rewarding. There is also a high degree of professionalism and sophistication at Stellar. It’s great to work with people who take their jobs very seriously and want to be the best at what they do.
Luke Facemyer
Director of Refrigeration/Mechanical Engineering
I’ve been with Stellar for five years, beginning as a Project Manager and currently serving as a Senior Project Manager overseeing multiple projects and employees. Stellar’s diversity, from the markets in which we work to the services we provide, offers an exciting place do to business. Any given day can take our focus from a military project across the country to a new car dealership in our own backyard.
What I enjoy most about Stellar is getting the opportunity to work with a great group of people. From leaders who value your opinion and encourage growth, to the new employees who are eager to learn, Stellar works as a team from top to bottom. If you are motivated, have the drive to succeed, and are seeking a long-term career, Stellar is looking for you.
