Stellar Begins Project in Alaska - Ft. Wainwright

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (July 22, 2015) – Stellar, a fully integrated firm focused on design, engineering, construction and mechanical services worldwide, has started construction on a Golf Clubhouse and Winter Activity Center at Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

In keeping with the diversity of Alaska’s climate and terrain, this Center serves golfers in the summer and cross country skiers in the winter. The 8,000 square foot building is located at the Chena Bend Golf Course on post between Fairbanks and North Pole in Fairbanks, where during the summer months the days are 18 hours long and the Center operates as a full service golf clubhouse. During the winter months, the center is converted to a full service ski shop. The building features a Pro Shop, Ski Shop, Dining Facility with full bar, Locker Rooms, Golf Simulator, and Administrative Offices. An additional 3,500 square foot building cart storage facility also houses personal and rental club storage. Stellar engaged Fairbanks-based Design Alaska, Inc. to perform architectural services for this project.

Funding for the design and construction of this facility is paid for with US Army Nonappropriated Funds (NAF) provided by Soldiers, Military Families and authorized users of these Family & Morale Welfare Recreation (MWR) facilities. Stellar has worked with MWR on more than 30 projects, all dedicated to service men and women of the US Military.

The Chena Bend Golf Course is a premier 18-hole course, having been rated among Golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play” for multiple years. Its design accommodates both experienced and beginning golfers. The course doubles for cross-country skiing open to the public. This project brings an exciting new concept by enabling use of the Activity Center year-round rather than sitting idle during the winter months. The new Activities Center is scheduled for completion in December 2015.
