Stellar Renovates MCX Exchange Mall at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort

BEAUFORT, S.C. (June 16, 2020) — Stellar has completed its renovation of the Marine Corps Exchange (MCX) at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Beaufort.

The $2.7 million design-build project included updates to the 16,000-square-foot MCX mall, which includes retail stores and a food court. Stellar also renovated the adjacent 6,500-square-foot. fueling station.

A fixture on Marine Corps installations, MCX carries items needed for a quick one-stop shopping experience for personnel, including men’s and women’s athletic wear, athletic shoes, beauty aids, personal care, military gifts and electronics.

“A driving factor for this project was its schedule,” said Joe Mark, Operations Manager, Public Sector/Military, Stellar. “The facility is a revenue-generating operation, and one of very few facilities on base that marines can use. Any downtime for construction activities would have had a significant effect on both revenue and quality of life for those service members. Therefore, we created an efficient and effective construction plan to maximize the client’s ongoing business operations during construction.”

This plan included performing all construction activities in rolling phases, coordinating with the operation’s management for areas of turnover, building temporary walls to separate construction activities from patron areas, and executing the construction schedule with a high degree of coordination and efficiency.

Construction first began in August 2019 and was completed ahead of schedule on February 28, 2020.

The design and construction of this facility is funded by United States Marine Corps Non-Appropriated Funds (NAF) and Appropriated Funds (APF) provided by Marine Corps Community Services and Headquarters Marine Corps. U.S. Army Installation Management Command (IMCOM) managed the contract.

Stellar has worked with IMCOM on more than 40 projects around the world.
