Crown Bakeries Facility Renovation
To modernize and expand its operations, Crown Bakeries embarked on a transformation journey by renovating its facility in Smyrna, Georgia. The project, commissioned by Arbor Investments and led by Stellar's Food & Beverage team, marked a new era for Crown Bakeries. The comprehensive renovation aimed to enhance the facility's capabilities and create innovative spaces that promote creativity and efficiency.
The main objective of the ambitious renovation was to transform a 50-year-old building into a state-of-the-art processing facility spanning 200,000 square feet. The project kicked off in January 2022 with demolition and construction. It aimed to expand the manufacturing floor space, triple the size of the research and development center with the addition of an innovation lab, and improve employee welfare areas, offices, and café facilities.
Stellar's design team infused the aging facility with a fresh perspective, creating an urban industrial design emphasizing functionality and efficiency. Key interior features included polished and sealed concrete flooring for durability and ease of maintenance, a spacious open-concept lobby with high ceilings and ample lighting, an ornate staircase that connects the lobby with the mezzanine conference room and executive offices, high-end glass and brass ornamental fixtures in office and welfare areas, an expanded employee breakroom with additional seating and controlled access for improved comfort and security, and fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) paneling in locker rooms and bathrooms for ease of cleaning.
One of the most notable features of the renovation is the 10,000-square-foot innovation lab located adjacent to the main lobby. This state-of-the-art R&D space and test kitchen is equipped with top-of-the-line equipment provided by the owner. Designed to host visitors and develop new product formulations, the innovation lab is a testament to Crown Bakeries' commitment to leading the industry in product innovation.
